The Biathlon originates in Scandinavia and competitions were known as early as the 1700s. The first modern one was probably in 1912. It was originally a training exercise for thte Norwegian army, probably due to the landscape of the area. In the Biathlon what you do is for most of the event types, you cross country ski around a track of varying length, depends on what event is going on. After that, you stop at the shooting range and you have the option of standing and shooting, or laying and shooting. For every taget you miss you get a time penalty. Some important terms to know:
clicks- slight adjustments to the gun sight according to the sun and wind, the measurement of amount of change is clicks turning.
handover zone- the area of the relay where the team mates tag off.
shoot clean- hit all targets in round.
wind flags- flags that indicated wind direction and intensity.
